About

Hello and welcome! My name is Sara and this corner of the internet is my lifestyle blog. Not solely a cooking blog, photography blog or even healthy living blog but a blend of all those topics and whatever I want to share with my readers.

PHOTOGRAPHY

Photography is one of my hobbies. I’m not a professional nor a freelancer, even though I dream that would be wonderful in my future. Whether I’m pointing the lens at a freshly baked dessert from my kitchen, the mountains, my cute dog or with luck catching a beautiful moment when I’m out and about—I’m a amateur trying to get better one image at a time.

COOKING & BAKING

The sweets and savories. Yum.

My husband, Jon, knows how to cook and compared to him, I don’t, at all. He rarely uses recipes and cooks off the hip. My posts about cooking are slim at the moment but the more I work at it the better I’ll be…hopefully. As long as I avoid burning things like bacon then everything will be fine. A smoking pot of burnt bacon is the worst!

But baking, that’s a fav of mine. The sweets, the yeasty doughs, the flaky crusts and the smooth icing. I can’t forget the pies either. In our wedding vows there was an agreement I’d make him pies now and then. Okay, maybe it wasn’t mentioned in our vows I would make him homemade pies but he jokes it was in small print. Update on that pie topic – Jon’s birthday gift this year are monthly pies for 12 months September 2011 – August 2012.

Living near Colorado Springs at 6,000 some odd feet above sea level can prove to be a bit of a challenge when it comes to baking. During the Spring of 2011 I attended a baking series to remedy the pesky baking tasks here and I’ve fallen in love with some delicious recipes, ones I want to share with you! My goal is to share adapted recipes I find online/in cookbooks with my own little twist but also how to adjust a recipe for those living at a high elevation so they can bake successfully. Just so you know, when I do include a recipe that is not of my own I follow David Lebovitz’ non-legal but recommended manner when blogging a recipe.

ME

I’ve been blogging off and on since 2005 and over those years I’ve written about a variety of topics: working in retail, the dating world, finding love online, planning a wedding and now living as a newlywed. Mostly I share about my time in the kitchen cooking (work in progress) and baking (more than cookies), dipping my toes into the world of photography (+ food photography!) and living a healthier lifestyle. Life as a newlywed and how Jon and I are improving our home one project at a time also will make appearances. Last but not least, we share our home with my fluffy pup, Chester. He’s a Cockapoo and he’s the most pathetic lap dog you’ll ever meet.

Above all, this blog is me through and through. I try to keep things relatively positive around here but sometimes I vent, it’s a healthy thing to do after all. I’m honest and what you see is what you get!

I hope you enjoy reading and I really appreciate you stopping by.
